Artisan Distilled Hydrosols and Natural Perfume About Hydrosols
When an oil is the desired outcome, the water is separated and usually discarded as it is of poor quality. If one is distilling for the water, the oil is not separated and the resulting hydrosol is richer and more of a complete ‘thumbprint’. Sometimes the oil floats on the top of the water, sometimes it is in emulsion.
Hydrosols work on the vibrational level and so are considered homeopathic. They also work on the physical level with their chemical structures and on the emotional/mental levels with their fragrances. Other names for these alchemical elixirs include hydrolats, floral waters and distillates. They are subtle enough for babies and children, yet potent enough to be effective in very small doses. I like drinking them; one teaspoon
to a pint of water. They are a delightful way to impart flavor, but
I also depend on them when my energy dips into sore throats, etc. I
use lemon thyme or echinacea to support my immune system, rose or
rose geranium to balance hormones, wild carrot for detox, yarrow or
frankincense to slow down my cycle,...whenever you would use dried
herbs or a tea, hydrosols add more punch!
Hydrosols are also the best thing
I have ever put on my face; I can immediately feel them start their
tonifying/anti-oxidant/rejuvenating magic. They create a finer
skin texture. "Congratulations
on the lovely work you are doing. A true distiller in the highest
sense of the word. Christopher McMahon

more choices. My
hydrosols are always in glass, from the ‘catch’ bottle
to your cobalt blue spray bottle. They do not make long journeys from
overseas to warehouse to shop, to your door. They are Artisan Distilled
in the Ozark hills. In many cases they are 'milky', or, in the case
of chamomile, pale blue, due to the emulsified oils.Like a fine wine, artisan hydrosols are 'limited editions'. There will only be so much Rose centifolia 2008. They will also vary from year to year, depending largely on the weather conditions. Sadly, many 'waters' that are on the market today are produced at least partially in labs and have the same, constant, inert smell. Know your source!
